Logan Correctional Center is an IDOC institution in Lincoln, not a county jail operated by the Logan County Sheriff. A person leaving the institution may enter parole or Mandatory Supervised Release, reach final discharge, or move to another IDOC location. Those outcomes are legally different. A person on parole or MSR has left the prison but remains under state correctional authority. Final discharge is the stronger endpoint because it indicates that IDOC legal control has ended.

Reception and Classification requires special care. Logan Reception & Classification Center functions as an intake, assessment, and placement component of the larger institution. Movement out of that component commonly means assignment to a different institution or living unit. It is not evidence of community release. Read the IDOC profile’s Offender Status and Location together, then look for an accomplished parole or discharge date. A new prison location with an in-custody status describes a transfer.

Most people serving determinate Illinois sentences reach a calculated release from confinement followed by MSR. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board explains that IDOC Records calculates most such dates; they are not ordinary discretionary parole grants. How to Confirm a Logan Correctional Center Release

Use the official IDOC Individual in Custody Search. An IDOC number is the most precise search key. If it is unavailable, search the exact name and compare the date of birth, physical descriptors, commitment county, offense information, and photograph before treating a result as the correct person.

1. Open the person’s IDOC profile and copy the displayed Offender Status and Location exactly.
2. Review the “Admission / Release / Discharge Info” area for an Admission Date, Projected Parole Date, actual Parole Date or Last Paroled Date, and Projected Discharge Date, as available.
3. Treat every field labeled “projected” as an estimate. Do not describe it as a completed release.
4. For a completed event, look for a status such as parole or MSR together with an actual date. Confirm whether supervision continues.
5. Use a discharge status or final-discharge record before concluding that state legal custody ended.

The sentencing table may contain “Sentence Discharged?: Yes/No.” A “yes” on one count does not establish whole-person discharge if another sentence remains active. Consecutive or concurrent sentences, new judgments, court custody credit, discipline, warrants, and statutory credit restrictions can all affect the calculation. Illinois VINE offers a second status and notification route at VINELink or 866-566-8439. Search one person, verify the reporting agency and identifier, and read the event text and date. A custody change can still be a transfer, so reconcile an ambiguous VINE event with the IDOC profile. Notification registration can provide phone, text, email, or app alerts when currently offered, but an alert is not a substitute for the underlying agency record.

IDOC’s current contact page is preferable to repeating a telephone number that the agency warns may change. Ask IDOC Constituent Services for help interpreting a current public status. For a durable release record, submit a narrow IDOC FOIA request identifying the person by full name and IDOC number and identifying the specific document or fields sought, such as release date, release type, receiving parole district, transfer destination, or discharge date.

Illinois FOIA, 5 ILCS 140, generally provides a five-business-day initial response framework for noncommercial requests, subject to a statutory extension and exemptions. It does not guarantee that every correctional detail is public. Privacy, safety, security, and law-enforcement restrictions can limit case-management or supervision information. Asking for a defined record is more effective than requesting an entire institutional file.

PRB records can matter when the person had an eligible parole hearing, MSR condition or revocation proceeding, or final-discharge action. Public board records should be used for the event they actually document. A scheduled hearing does not prove release, and an MSR record does not by itself prove final discharge.

Logan Correctional Center is a multi-level IDOC institution serving adult women. Logan Reception & Classification Center is treated as a component of this institution rather than a fourth independent Logan County release route. Intake staff assess and classify people entering the state system before placement decisions. Because classification is an administrative custody process, a move from the reception component should never be captioned as a release without a matching release, parole, or discharge status and date.

This official facility view establishes that Logan is an IDOC prison in Lincoln. It should not be confused with the Logan County Safety Complex or with similarly named facilities and sheriff sites in other states.

Reception, Classification, and Placement

The official Logan Reception & Classification Center page identifies the intake component associated with Logan Correctional Center.

The separate agency page helps explain a location label that may appear during intake. It does not turn classification into a separate community-release process. When an IDOC profile changes from reception to another prison, the new institution is the next custody source. Confirm release only from the profile’s status and completed date fields.

Families may see a delay while intake, placement, and public data systems update. Disappearance from one location is not an adequate substitute for an affirmative record. If the profile is temporarily unavailable or unclear, use the official contact channel and preserve the response date, person’s IDOC number, and exact terminology supplied by the agency.

Projected Date, Release to Supervision, and Discharge

A Projected Parole Date or Projected Discharge Date is forward-looking. IDOC explains that earned sentence credit may revise a projected parole date and that the revised calculation appears in the public profile. Credits may be earned, withheld, revoked, or recalculated. Illinois law also imposes offense-specific service requirements and limits, so a viewer should not independently promise a release day from a sentence length.

An actual Parole Date paired with an Offender Status of parole and a parole-district Location supports the narrower conclusion that the person left institutional confinement for supervision. It does not mean every correctional obligation ended. Under Illinois law, a person on parole or MSR remains in legal custody until discharge. PRB’s final-discharge materials or an IDOC discharge status provide stronger evidence of that endpoint.

Program participation also must be kept separate from release calculation. The facility page identifies reentry-oriented services, but enrollment, completion, or eligibility does not establish a release date. Questions about current programs and eligibility belong with IDOC. Only the agency’s records calculation, lawful order, and completed status can establish the custody event.

Current Facility Status and Rebuild Planning

As of the July 16, 2026 research date, official IDOC materials and the agency’s Illinois facilities map continued to identify Logan Correctional Center while operational guidelines allow. State planning materials discuss a proposed replacement women’s facility in Crest Hill. Planning, design, funding, or construction discussion is future-facing and does not establish that Logan has closed. It also does not show that anyone housed there was released.

If a future agency announcement changes operations, check the effective date and the destination named for affected people. Movement to another IDOC institution remains a transfer.
